GRAND BAY-WESTFIELD (GNB) – An investment of $1.2 million in sanitary lift station upgrades was announced today in Grand Bay-Westfield under the Small Communities Fund.

“These upgrades represent a significant step forward in providing an efficient wastewater collection system and a sustainable future for the town and its residents,” said Ed Doherty, minister responsible for Service New Brunswick. “The project is delivering new infrastructure and jobs to this community thanks to a partnership between all three levels of government.”

Doherty spoke on behalf of Environment and Local Government Minister Brian Kenny.

The town’s sanitary lift stations located in the area of Murray Street, Highland Road and Brandy Point Road and at the intersections of Majestic Drive, Meadowbrook Drive and Inglewood Drive will undergo several improvements. The work includes the installation of a new gravity sewer, the replacement of a wet well, control panels and monitoring equipment, as well as the installation of new backup power supplies.

“We are pleased to be working with both levels of government to bring this important project to fruition,” said Grand Bay-Westfield Mayor Grace Losier. “These improvements will help our community provide quality infrastructure and services to businesses, residents and visitors alike.”

Under the Small Communities Fund, the provincial and federal governments are jointly investing about $85 million in infrastructure during the next 10 years. Each project receives matching funding from the community, for a total investment of more than $118 million. This is the first round of investments under the fund.

A total of 43 projects in New Brunswick communities will receive funding for strategic infrastructure projects that contribute to both a cleaner environment and economic growth.
