FREDERICTON (GNB) – A draft regulation which would consolidate the enforcement of bylaws relating to dangerous or unsightly premises under one piece of legislation, the Local Governance Act, has been posted for public review until Jan. 16.

The current situation requires local governments to adopt dangerous or unsightly premises by-laws under the Municipalities Act, while local service districts, and those local governments without by-laws, were served under the Unsightly Premises Act.

“We are consolidating the rules under one piece of legislation to make it more easily understood,” said Environment and Local Government Minister Serge Rousselle.

Local governments will continue to adopt their own by-laws and any current by-laws remain in force.

The regulation to enforce bylaws regarding dangerous or unsightly premises is expected to be brought into force early in 2018.
