FREDERICTON (GNB) – Residents of local service districts in the Fredericton, Saint John and Sussex regions are advised that the special pickups of flood debris will end soon.

In the Sussex and Saint John regions, the local service districts of Johnston, Wickham, Kars, Springfield, Hampton-Nauwigewauk, Greenwich, Westfield (East & West), and Kingston, the final pickup will be on Friday, June 28.

Residents in the Fredericton region, local services districts of York, Queen, and Sunbury counties, will have until Friday, July 5, for debris pickup.

Local landfills will continue to accept flood debris at no charge until Saturday, July 27. People should check each facility’s hours of operation, the schedule for Household Hazardous Waste Days, and inform staff at the gate that they are disposing of flood-damaged items.

Residents are reminded to bring their debris to the roadside. Accepted waste for pickup includes appliances (remove doors and covers for safety), furniture, carpeting, insulation, paper products, construction debris, etc. Small loose items should be bagged or boxed.

Waste should be separated as follows:

• Small loose items – bagged or boxed

• Larger construction debris (lumber/concrete blocks/shingles)

• Mattresses

• Appliances

Hazardous materials (i.e. petroleum and propane tanks, chemical containers, dead animal carcasses, etc.) will not be accepted. Avoid contact with any hazardous material.

Regular household waste will be collected as usual, and should be placed separately from flood-related items.

Regular household hazardous waste generated by the flood can also be taken at these facilities.
