FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following message was issued today by Premier Blaine Higgs for Family Day, Monday, February 15:

The pandemic has brought into sharp focus the importance of family. This year, Family Day will look different. We need everyone to do their part and follow Public Health’s advice as we continue to work to slow the spread of COVID-19.

I encourage New Brunswickers to reach out to loved ones this weekend through email, FaceTime, Zoom, Skype, or a phone call. These simple acts of kindness remind those we love that we are thinking about them. However, it is essential that we avoid large gatherings and crowds, and instead stick to your household and Steady 10 contacts.

In years past, there have also been events and activities planned for Family Day. While that is not possible this year, you can still plan your own activities.

Marcia and I hope to spend some time enjoying the great outdoors and I encourage you to do the same.

Family time is a precious commodity and while this long weekend comes at a challenging time, it still offers us a chance to make special memories close to home.

If this pandemic has taught us anything, it is to appreciate what is important in life. COVID-19 has also shown us that New Brunswickers are resilient and caring. Together, we will get through this.

Enjoy a safe and happy Family Day!
