MIRAMICHI (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $146,008 to support a revitalization plan for the two downtown areas in Miramichi. The City of Miramichi is contributing $150,000.

“New Brunswickers are proud of who they are and where they come from,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation. “Our investment into this plan will bring families and residents together and increase economic activity and enrich the Miramichi area.

The plan has two objectives:

  • To develop a long-term vision for the redevelopment of Miramichi’s two downtown waterfronts based upon public consultations.
  • To develop a comprehensive strategic action plan with short-term, mid-term and long-term goals to improve the vibrancy and attract more people to the two downtown cores.

“We are beyond excited to partner with the Province of New Brunswick to develop our city's first long-term strategic development plan for our downtown cores,” said Mayor Adam Lordon. “This plan will be based around the waterfront and a downtown vision created by Miramichier's themselves through extensive public consultations. It will include detailed, actionable recommendations for the use of public spaces and infrastructure, as well as recommendations for policy and bylaw amendments that we can incorporate into our Municipal Development Plan to encourage and simulate private investment and the renewal of our downtowns and waterfronts for the next 20 years.”
