EDMUNDSTON (GNB) – The tender to construct Les Résidences Jodin, the replacement nursing home in the Edmundston area, has been awarded to Springhill Construction Ltd. of Fredericton.

"I am pleased that this contract has been awarded and the project is proceeding," said Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé. "Before long, the residents and staff will have a new, secure facility that will enhance their quality of life in the community they call home."

Les Résidences Jodin will replace Foyer Saint-Joseph de Saint-Basile and Villa Des Jardins. It will have 180 beds, 24 more than its predecessors, and is estimated to cost $48.5 million.

"The construction of this nursing home demonstrates our government's commitment to rebuilding New Brunswick," said Dubé. "By continuing to improve the province's nursing home infrastructure, we will help ensure our seniors receive the quality care and support they need close to home, family and friends."

Construction is expected to begin by the end of January, with the project to be completed in the fall of 2014.

Les Résidences Jodin is part of the provincial government's 2011-16 nursing home renovation and replacement plan, under which 354 nursing home beds and 704 specialized care beds are being opened.
