EDMUNDSTON (GNB) – Construction is underway on Les Résidences Jodin, the replacement nursing home in the Edmundston area.

"I am pleased to see construction begin on this much-anticipated project," said Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé. “This new nursing home is as meaningful to the community as it is to the seniors who will call this facility home."

Les Résidences Jodin will replace Foyer Saint-Joseph de Saint-Basile and Villa Des Jardins. It will have 180 beds, 24 more than its predecessors, and is estimated to cost $48.5 million. Springhill Construction Ltd. of Fredericton was awarded the tender. The project is to be completed in the fall of 2014.

"Investing in senior care is a key part of our government's plan to rebuild New Brunswick," said Dubé. "Les Résidences Jodin will enhance the quality of life of our seniors because it will allow residents to remain close to their families, friends and community."

Les Résidences Jodin is part of the provincial government's 2011-16 nursing home renovation and replacement plan, under which 354 nursing home beds and 704 specialized care beds are being opened.
