FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following is a message from Social Development Minster Madeleine Dubé in recognition of Social Work Week, March 17-21:

There are about 1,700 social workers in the province working in the areas of social assistance, health care, counselling, education, justice, child welfare, First Nations communities and advocacy organizations.

These dedicated professionals help our residents by connecting them to the services, resources and opportunities they need, and by aiding in the development and improvement of social policy.

As a social worker myself, I fully appreciate the major role they play in the lives of New Brunswickers and how key they are in keeping the social service system functional. Without them, our system would not run as well as it does.

Please take time this week, and whenever appropriate, to recognize social workers for their efforts, accomplishments and contributions.
