PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. (GNB) – The Canada Games are now officially over and Team New Brunswick won 13 medals as well as the Canada Games Centennial Cup during the two weeks of competitions that took place in Prince George, B.C.

Triple medalist para-nordic athlete Louis Fortin led Team New Brunswick into the outdoor pavilion at the University of Northern British Columbia, site of Sunday’s closing ceremonies. Fortin won two gold medals and a silver medal in the para-nordic cross country skiing events.

Chef de mission Sherry Doiron was pleased with the performance of the athletes during the Games.

“Members of Team New Brunswick can leave Prince George with their head up,” said Doiron “I am very proud of our athletes’ performances. We leave with 13 medals and the Centennial Cup which New Brunswick has never won before. They leave knowing they gave their best and will have positive memories of their experience in Prince George.”

The Centennial Cup is an award presented to the provincial or territorial team that shows the greatest improvement between games. Team New Brunswick received the award earlier in the day prior to the closing ceremonies.

Team New Brunswick won a total of 13 medals: three gold, (Louis Fortin, 2 in para-nordic cross-country skiing; and Scott Ring, individual target shooting air pistol), four silver (Emily Dean and Delayne Donahue in team air rifle shooting; Miranda Dedam, Special Olympics figure skating level III; Louis Fortin in para-nordic cross-country skiing; and women’s 3000 m short track relay) and six bronze (Alyssa Murphy, archery; Hailey Baisley, archery; ringette; men’s 3000 m short track relay; Jédrick Imbeault, judo; and Maxime Emond, judo)

Team New Brunswick was represented by 205 athletes, 60 coaches, managers and technical staff and 16 mission team members and competed in alpine skiing, archery, gymnastics, badminton, biathlon, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, hockey, judo, ringette, target shooting, speedskating, synchronized swimming, squash and wheelchair basketball.

The next Canada Winter Games will be held in Red Deer, Alberta in 2019.
