BERTRAND (GNB) – The Village Historique Acadien began its 38th season on Sunday, June 8.

“Here in New Brunswick, we are proud of our cultural and heritage attractions, which distinguish us from the rest of the world,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Trevor Holder. “Acadie is an important part of this. We look forward to welcoming New Brunswickers and visitors this season to the Acadian experience at the Village Historique Acadien.”

On June 21-22, children will be invited to name the baby animals that will be on the historic site all season long. The large farm that has more than 200 animals.

The Château Albert will be open to visitors for breakfast every day from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Various evening events will also be organized there, and new menus of traditional Acadian cuisine will be offered.

Visitors will find that travel is in the air at the brand new Café de la Gare, which offers a simple menu as well as coffee roasted on the premises. Lobster dinners will also be served in a country-style outdoor atmosphere at the Frenette Post House.

A photography exhibit entitled Fenêtre sur l'Acadie will be presented by the photography clubs of the Acadian Peninsula and the Chaleur region, and an antiques fair and art sale will also be organized.

The summer camps for youngsters will be back, as will Le Daguerre photography studio. In addition, visitors will be able to hike the 2.5-kilometre trail.

The village invites visitors to experience the daily life of yesteryear, exploring the houses, barns and general stores and meeting the interpreters they will find there. The village features about 60 historic buildings and structures dating from 1770 to 1949.

Visitors can purchase a bracelet, which is valid for two days of visiting. The village membership card entitles them to free access to the historic site throughout the season.

The village will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., everyday until Sept. 20. The season will wind up with a week of guided tours, from Sept. 21 to 27. There will be just one departure per day, at 10 a.m.
