SAINT JOHN (GNB) – On International Museums Day, the provincial government welcomed the appointment of Bernard Riordon as transitional CEO of the New Brunswick Museum.

“As an Order of Canada recipient in 2002, an author of over 50 books and publications on art and artists in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, and extensive experience in this sector, Mr. Riordon brings a valuable combination of knowledge and expertise to this role,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Tammy Scott-Wallace. “With his wealth of relevant knowledge and experience in the art and culture sectors, we look forward to working collaboratively with him as the museum establishes a new path forward.”

Scott-Wallace said next steps for the chief executive officer include revitalizing the museum so that New Brunswickers can continue to enjoy a facility that houses so much of the province’s rich natural and cultural history. A national campaign will also be launched to help fund infrastructure improvements and endowments.

“Bernie Riordon is well-known across Canada for his visionary leadership at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and the Beaverbrook Gallery in Fredericton. The New Brunswick Museum now looks forward to significant advancement under his direction, and we congratulate him on his appointment,” said Kathryn Hamer, acting chair of the museum board of directors.

Currently, the New Brunswick Museum is operating in two main facilities: the Collections and Research Centre, at 277 Douglas Ave., in Saint John, which is owned by the province; and the Exhibition Centre, at Market Square, in Saint John, which is leased from the private sector. Due to space restraints, the museum also has temporary storage off-site.

I look forward to being a part of continuing to move the museum forward with confidence in recognition of the culture and heritage of New Brunswickers,” said Riordon. “ I look forward to working with the Province of New Brunswick, the dedicated and passionate board of directors, professional and committed staff and volunteers.”
