FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government is advising eligible New Brunswickers that they will receive their first HST credit payment in October.

“The HST credit will help low- and middle-income families and will provide about $100 million in direct financial support to New Brunswickers,” said Finance Minister Roger Melanson. “We are working with the Canada Revenue Agency to ensure eligible residents receive credit payments as quickly and efficiently as possible.”

In October, eligible New Brunswickers will receive two quarterly payments covering the period of July through December in one single payment. In January 2017, the payments will return to single quarterly payments. This payment will be the approximate amount that eligible New Brunswickers can expect on a quarterly basis going forward.

The agency will distribute the credit on behalf of the provincial government by adding it to the federal GST/HST credit payments received by eligible residents. The credit will be paid on a quarterly basis either by direct deposit or cheque. Quarterly payments less than $50 will be accumulated and paid annually.

The full HST credit will be provided to those with an income of less than $35,000 per year. In addition, an individual with an income of less than $50,000, or a family of two adults and two children with a combined income of less than $75,000, could receive a payment.

More information on the new HST credit is available online.
